Mimosa thrives in our poor and sandy soils and tolerates drought because as it spreads it sends out the deepest roots we've ever seen! The pinky-purple puffball flowers make pollinators like bees very happy and the whole plant is used as a host plant for the Little Sulphur butterfly. Besides all of these awesome benefits maybe the best part of this plant is its "sensitive" part... when you touch the plants leaves they quickly close as you watch, which kids marvel at every time. If you establish a whole yard of this groundcover and then walk through it you can turn back and see your footprints because the plant closed its leaves up where you stepped...
