It has been used medicinally and spiritually in India for thousands of years, for which it has no equal. Ayurveda classifies tulsi as an adaptogen, helping the body to cope with stressors of all forms: emotional, physical, and environmental. Spiritually, Tulsi is thought to offer divine protection - the plant an incarnation of the goddess, Tulsi in Hindu mythology. Many Indian families grow Tulsi inside or outside their homes for protection from misery, fear, poverty and disease.

There is so much information and misinformation about the Holy Basil varieties online that its hard to write these descriptions about the different varieties, so
we will just focus on our experience with this exact plant pictured, which we purchased from a seed retailer labeled as “Rama Tulsi”. Its one of our favorite types that loves the South Florida heat and has a distinct licorice and clove flavor and purplish tinted leaves, especially at the base of the plant. It is a very easy to use medicinal plant that we encourage people to get comfortable and familiar with if they are just starting their relationship with Tropical Herbalism. Its easy to grow and if you harvest by pinching off the growing tips the plants will stay low, wide and bushy. Can be perennial in a frost free climate
