Thai Oakleaf Lettuce
Lactuca sativa
Southern Exposure Seed Exchange
400-600 seeds per packet
days to maturity: 40 days
plant spacing: 2-3 per square foot
sunlight requirements: 8-14 hours
look out for: not enough light causes bolting in head lettuce
harvest notes: harvest outer leaves as needed or whole head when mature
annual
This variety was selected by Southern Exposure Seed Exchange to produce excellent quality lettuce under high heat conditions. This variety resembles other oak leafs but with larger more tender and more upright leaves. Moderately slow to bolt, which is imperative for varieties grown in South Florida. Pro tip from our team of growers: dont buy a lettuce variety online unless it says “slow to bolt” in the description because if not your plant will mature and produce seeds a.k.a bolt, too early and you wont get any delicious tender sweet lettuce leaves. If you dont have the 8 hours of sun needed to make head lettuce just direct seed this and any other varieties you may want to mix in densely in a line in your garden and treat it as a “cut and come again” baby lettuce mix.

Plant Care
Plant Care
When your plant delivery arrives, make sure you water your new plants thoroughly with a light spray of water (none of this thumb over the hose stuff). We recommend planting them within 10 days of receiving them. If you do intent to wait to plant them, we recommend placing them in a shallow reservoir (like a baking pan) and filling it with half an inch of water so they can drink the water from below while you are at work and place them in an area with plenty of sun. When planting in your garden always add a dash of Organic granular fertilizer, and give them extra water during their first week in their new home, while they adjust. We recommend disturbing the root ball as little as possible during planting.
